How well do you actually Know yourself?
This morning in careers we decided to take a couple of personality quizzes, to get to know ourselves a bit better. However, I thought these quizzes were ridiculous. Can these personality quizzes actually tell me exactly who I am? Are these quizzes even accurate? Is the quiz actually the truth and have I've just been too naive to admit it this whole time? These were just a few of the dozens of questions I was asking myself as I took these quizzes. As I answered all the answers in the quiz I found some of the results just unbelievable compared to the others.
Here's the first quiz I took. This is a Harry Potter character quiz and could be found at http://www.brainfall.com/quizzes/which-harry-potter-character-are-you/ . Personally, I think this quiz was the most inaccurate out of them all, and probably due to the fact that there were only ten questions. I completed the quiz and I resulted in a tie between Ron and Hermione. The results basically said: I don't understand the hard work to get in the spotlight and that I help my friends on the way. I know that things aren't just handed to you and I understand that, which gave me difficulty believing I was Ron. However, I do agree that I help my friends along the way.

This was the second quiz I took and had more believable results. This quiz could be found at http://www.outofservice.com/bigfive/.
This was a more reliable quiz. I'm just going to give a brief summary of what the picture says, as I know it's difficult to read. "You are somewhat conventional. You are very-well organized, and can be relied upon. You are relatively social and enjoy the company of others. You find it easy to express irruption with others. You are generally relaxed". I personally thought this was a very accurate quiz as I'm told by many people that I am very organized and neat. People find me reliable to get a job done for them and I do enjoy group work and the company of others. I like to bounce ideas of others and work together. |
Finally, this was the last quiz I was able to take for the day. For those of you who would love to take the quiz please visit http://similarminds.com/jung.html.
This quiz was a great quiz as well. The results were similar to the second quiz. The quiz results stated that I'm well organized and I follow the rules. The quiz was certainly right about the fact that I attend many family reunions and parties. I agreed with the results again as it said I could be humorous, and behave abnormal at times. I also agreed with the fact that I'm rarely lazy and I want to get work done and finished on time, so I don't have to stress about it later. Finally, the quiz said I'm great at making desisions quickly, which was a point I disagreed with. I find it difficult to make choices as I need the time to find the pros and cons of each pathway. I liked this quiz and found it rather accurate and it this was actually a quiz that helped me realize that this is the type of person I am. |
Career cruising activity
A couple weeks ago, we were given time to complete a quiz on www.careercruising.com, called the career matchmaker. This quiz asks you many school and personal related questions and depending on your responses, the website matches you with careers suitable to you. If you look below, you will see my results. On the left are the results when I first took the quiz and on the right are the results when I took my second attempt. Personally, I agree more with the second quiz, as the jobs seem to be in the field that I am interested in. Below my results, I am going to list a few statistics and facts of my top three careers.
Computer Hardware Technician
If you are deciding to become a computer hardware technician, you are required to have at least a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering. However, if you are looking for more of an advanced research position a master’s degree is required. The following courses are recommended if you would like to become a computer hardware engineer. In grade 9 taking English, mathematics, science, social studies, creative arts, health and physical education, French and computers can help you get an introduction to computers and hardwares. In grade 10 the following courses can advance your knowledge in computers: English, mathematics, science, social studies, personal and career development, computers, drafting and design and electronics and communications technology. When entering grade 11, you should make sure you have the following classes on your schedule if you desire to become a computer technician: English, mathematics, probability and statistics, physics, social studies, computers, drafting and designs, and electronics and communications. Finally, the last eight classes of high school should be: English, mathematics, algebra and geometry or calculus, physics, social studies, computers, drafting and design and electronics and communications technology if you wish to become a computer hardware technician. If you pick the courses, you are more likely to obtain a job as a computer hardware technician.
Below, you can find information on a few of the core tasks that are involved as a computer hardware technician. If you have just got your bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, you are to be able to carry out basic engineering tasks. Your job description may include tasks that involve analysis of numbers and having the ability to crunch them. Also, you should be cooperative with other engineers and researchers, and be able to work together to conquer design problems. With a bit more experience, your job title will be hardware engineer. You won’t be supervised as much, however you are given more compact design projects and are given more complex analyses. Finally, an MBA (Masters of Business Administration) degree and multiple years of experience can give you the job title of a senior technician. As you are in charge and are given decision making powers, you are constantly reviewing other engineers’ work, and bringing in new design concepts. You could also be carrying out department administrative functions such as budgeting. Core tasks can also vary depending on the environment you work in and experience levels.
If you were to become a computer hardware technician you can make anywhere from $ 40,000 to $ 125,000 dollars a year. Factors that can change the range of your salary include education and experience. An entry-level hardware engineer can make $ 40,000 to $ 60,000 dollars a year. This is fairly reasonable as they are not highly experienced and need supervision. One’s earnings start to increase, as they become a hardware technician. In this field, you can take home $55,000 to $ 100,000 dollars a year. This is an agreeable amount as supervision decreases and tasks become challenging. Finally, a senior technician can make anywhere from $ 80,000 to $ 125,000 dollars a year. As they are highly experienced, their education level and job difficulty give them an increase in salary.
Here is a list of three careers related to computer hardware technicians: audio-visual technician, avionics technician, or a broadcast technician.
Mechanical Engineering Tech
If you see yourself as a mechanical engineer, education is key. Generally, mechanical engineers are required to have a one to two year(s) program in mechanical engineering technology. However, mechanical engineering technologists must complete a two to three year(s) session or program in the same subject. It is also a great idea to have a CCTT (Canadian Council of Technicians and Technology) certificate as it only obtainable with two or more years of work experience. It helps increase job opportunities as it shows a high level of expertise. If you think a mechanical engineer is for you, take the following courses in high school. In grade 9 make sure you take: English, mathematics, science, social studies, creative arts, computers, French, and health and physical education. These courses can give you an introduction to mechanical engineering. In grade 10 you start to develop your skills further with: English, mathematics, science, social studies, personal and career development, computers, and technology. Advancing into grade 11, it is highly recommended to take: English, mathematics, probability and statistics, chemistry, physics, social studies, computers, and drafting and designs as it keeps the pathway to mechanical engineering open. Finally, to become a successful mechanical engineer, taking the following courses in grade 12 is strongly recommended: English, algebra and geometry, calculus, chemistry, physics, social studies, computers, and drafting and design. These courses are not available in all schools and vary in activities from school to school, and to be safe consult your guidance counselor.
Listed below, you can discover just a few of the core tasks completed, by mechanical engineers. At entry-level tech, you are responsible for preparing layouts for new machines, learning the key tools of trade, and running tests on equipment. As you gain experience and develop into an intermediate tech, your core tasks have a slight change. Responsibilities increase as you are now designing machinery and checking the efficiency between workers and managers. This means you are making sure there is enough room for equipment and keeping track of production rates. Also, an intermediate tech is responsible for inspecting mechanical installations as well as adapting skills for other areas of work. Finally, experience pays off as you move on from an intermediate tech to a senior tech or production manager. Responsibilities have also changed yet again. As a production manager, your job is to manage the group of other mechanical engineering employees and carefully watch projects from start to end.
A decent amount of money can be earned as a mechanical engineer. You can earn anywhere from $ 25,000 to $ 100,000. Experience can make a big difference in a mechanical engineer’s salary. If you are new to the job, you can expect to earn anywhere from $ 25,000 to $ 40,000. Again, this is fairly reasonable, as you will have to be supervised by a senior constantly. As you become a CCTT graduate, your pay will increase again. An intermediate tech can earn anywhere from $ 35,000 to $60,000 per year. As supervision decreases, workloads increase, which do result in a higher salary. Finally, project managers can take home $ 50,000 to $ 100,000 dollars, as they have plenty of experience, 5 to 10 years to be exact.
